How to Make Time for Your Marketing

Making time for marketing can feel like an impossible task when your schedule is already packed. But here's the thing: marketing is key to growing your business, and without it, you're leaving opportunities on the table. That's why this week’s mini-marketing episode is all about simple, actionable tips to help you prioritize marketing—without overwhelming your already-busy life.

At Ideas for Real Estate, we know how challenging it is to juggle business, personal life, and everything in between. But through years of experience and working with real estate agents, I’ve discovered strategies that work. Let’s break it down.

Why Marketing Deserves a Place on Your Calendar

It’s easy to have big goals at the start of the year. January rolls around, and we’re motivated to do it all—create content, close deals, and balance life like a pro. But then the reality of daily responsibilities sets in, and marketing often takes a backseat.

Here’s the truth: marketing can’t just be an idea floating in your head. If you want results, you need to make it a priority. The first step? Time-blocking.

Tip #1: Schedule Marketing Like a Meeting

I always say, "If it’s not on your calendar, it’s not going to happen." Just like you wouldn’t skip an important meeting with a client, you shouldn’t skip your marketing time.

Pick a time each week that works for you. Maybe Monday mornings are perfect for brainstorming ideas, or Thursday evenings are your quiet hours for creating content. Whatever time you choose, add it to your calendar and stick to it. And be realistic—don’t schedule marketing during busy or distraction-prone times, like when the kids are home from school.

If something unavoidable comes up, treat it like a rescheduled meeting. Move your marketing session to another slot, but don’t cancel it altogether.

Tip #2: Create a Marketing Routine That Works for You

Once you’ve set your marketing time, the next step is to get into the marketing zone. This means showing up prepared and ready to work, free from distractions. Ask yourself:

  • Do I focus better in a quiet office or a bustling coffee shop?

  • What tools or setup will help me be more productive?

  • How can I block out distractions like social media and email?

For me, productivity comes from small details like listening to my favorite Spotify playlist or adjusting the lighting in my office. These little habits signal my brain, "It’s time to focus."

Tip #3: Make the Most of Your Time

This one’s crucial: Don’t waste your marketing time figuring out what to do. Before your session, decide exactly what you’ll work on. For example:

  • Planning your social media posts for the week

  • Taking a marketing training course

  • Writing blog content

When you know what you’re focusing on, you’ll use your time more effectively and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Bonus: My Weekly Routine

To stay on track, I structure my week around specific activities. Mondays and Tuesdays are for content creation. Midweek, I dive into the heart of my marketing suite, and Fridays are for consulting and projects. If someone asks to meet on a Monday, I confidently say, “I’m available Friday.” That structure keeps me productive and protects my time.

Let’s Build Your Marketing Momentum

At the end of the day, your marketing success hinges on one simple habit: showing up consistently. Schedule it, prepare for it, and commit to it like you would for any other key part of your business.
