As we take this time of year and reflect on the season, I want to begin this episode by saying how thankful I am for you! Thank you for tuning in (or reading the blog!) and being a part of the Ideas for Real Estate community. As I plan & produce these episodes, I truly do think about you and how I can show up with valuable content. So, I appreciate you tuning in, subscribing, and following me on social @IdeasforRealEstate.

I've always found real estate marketing to be exciting, even when it's challenging, and I appreciate that my life has led me to where it is today. Because after nearly a decade as a professional real estate marketer, I've seen the ups and downs we all experience. Heck, my husband is a commercial agent, so our entire lives are built around real estate. But it truly is the ups that keep me coming back for more!

So, instead of creating an episode where we tackle a problem or overcome an obstacle, I want to take a moment to reflect on what works. Let's shift out of any negative mindset and pause to appreciate what we do have, because there is a lot to be thankful for!

    1) Real Estate Isn't a Boring Industry Nobody Cares About

I say this all the time, and I'll continue to do so. We are so fortunate to be in the real estate industry when it comes to marketing. People truly care about real estate and the communities we live in! If they didn't, we wouldn't have so many HGTV shows about Realtors or home design. Every day, you get to live in the dream of homeownership, help people during major milestones, promote life in your local community, help people reach financial goals, and of course, you have all the beautiful kitchens, backyard views, and homes along the way!

I'm not going to call anyone out...but imagine if you were in insurance. After people have their policy, how much do they truly care about insurance anymore? Maybe they evaluate it once a year? I'd be willing to bet that the average person doesn't want to look at social posts or watch videos every day about insurance.

However, with the right social strategy, you can keep your sphere and potential new customers engaged! They'll stop their scroll to look at a post that relates to their life. Whether it's a relevant tip, beautiful home, or even to get to know you - there's so much more you can talk about in real estate!

It might seem obvious, but I am so thankful for this fact every day! Real estate marketing is a lot more fun, engaging, and even easier, than what you see in other industries!

    2) Social Media Works and It's Free!

Remember the days of having to pay for advertising? You didn't have a direct connection to potential customers at your fingertips. No, you had to pay for an ad to stay in front of people and convince them to work with you. Then, you had to overcome the negative perception of advertising where people knew you were "trying to sell them" on something.

Social media marketing has completely flipped that script. You can create content that people truly find value in. They want to look at what you're sharing. They want to engage with you. They want to do business with you.

When you're sharing content that works to attract your next customer and engage your sphere on social, you're not interrupting people's lives with an annoying commercial. You're there to serve them, and along the way, you're developing relationships and growing your agent brand.

I could turn this entire episode into why and how social media works, but for today I'll leave it at this - You have an unbelievable opportunity to reach people, to share who you are, and build your business. Stop thinking of social as another task to complete and instead, take a minute to appreciate that you are in complete control of what you share and how you show up. And those two things alone can make a major impact on your business.

    3) Video Will Expand Your Reach & Lead to Lasting Connections

The goal of marketing is to attract new customers, stay in touch with the people you know, and ultimately convert those connections into sales.

Sounds easy enough when you package it into a nice sentence, but the reality is that agents struggle with marketing. So, let's take a moment and be thankful for a form of marketing that we know gets results - and that's video. I'll be upfront here and say that for many, this will push you outside of your comfort zone.

But I truly believe video is a marketing avenue to be thankful for, for two important reasons.

Reason 1 - Video is an incredibly effective form of marketing, especially short-form video like Instagram Reels and TikToks. In Episode 100, I even shared a study that found short-form video to be the most effective way to generate engagement and leads in marketing today! This is a huge benefit to be thankful for!

Just a few years ago, we didn't even have short-form video, and now, quick videos can truly transform your business.

Reason 2 - It's easy to get started with video. All you need is your phone and yourself to get started. That's it! Authentic content is what people are attracted to now. So, yes, a high-quality video has its place, but a 5 second Reel could still connect you with thousands more people! If you have the motivation to create content, there's nothing standing in your way.

If you've been shy about video or haven't made time for it, I hope this is an extra reminder to give it a try and to appreciate the opportunities that video creates!

      4) You Can Brand Yourself To Get Results

Agent branding can seem like an overwhelming concept, but I'm here to remind you that branding is a truly empowering form of your marketing.

You have the ability to brand yourself in a way that works for who you are and to reach your unique goals. If you want to be known as the go-to agent in a specific market, you can brand yourself that way! If you want to be known for a lifestyle (equestrian, luxury, waterfont, etc.), you can brand yourself that way!

How you position yourself in your marketing and throughout your content will work towards building your branding and is something that you can start right away without spending a dime. Be mindful of what you share on social, make a point to work on your reputation, and show up in a way that you want to be remembered.

Whether you're a rookie or an experienced agent, branding is an essential form of marketing that can do wonders for your business. Take the time to invest in it and build upon it, and you will be thankful for years to come!

And if you need help with branding, start with Episode 40 & 41 to learn more about branding for real estate agents.

      5) There's a Training for Everything You Need!

I am so incredibly thankful for the access to information we have. If you don't know how to do something, you can find somebody to help you with the right training.

If you don't know how to work your CRM, I bet there's a training out there for you. If you need help with a setting in Gmail, there's a YouTube tutorial out there. The list goes on and on!

You're not alone when it comes to your real estate marketing, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to level up through education. In fact, just reading this blog or listening to the Ideas for Real Estate podcast is a way to improve your marketing and access creative ideas!

I was telling someone the other day that there was nobody that sat me down and said, "Heather, here's how you be a great marketer." Instead, I went out there and worked to improve myself by learning, experimenting, and searching for results.

Marketing trainings are something I'm incredibly thankful for because I've experienced first-hand their impact on my own professional life. I've also seen the results from agents I've helped through hosting my own real estate marketing trainings. So, if you haven't, be sure to head to https://ideasforrealestate.com/trainings, to see all of my on-demand marketing trainings and upcoming live sessions!

Because you don't have to go at it alone with your marketing, there's a trainer out there that can help you! And I'm honored that you're tuning into my podcast or attending my trainings to learn as well!

A Thankful Mindset in Real Estate Marketing

For every time you get frustrated or overwhelmed, let this episode be a reminder to flip your outlook. Each marketing idea or strategy out there is an opportunity that you can take advantage of! Marketing can fuel your business, connect you with more customers, and lead to those sales goals that define your lifestyle.
