Let’s talk about something that feels straight out of the future: AI tools for writing. These aren’t just theoretical anymore; they’re here, and they’re making waves. From ChatGPT to Canva’s Magic Write, AI writing tools can help you create everything from captions to blog posts in a snap.
But here’s the question: Should you be using AI to handle your real estate marketing content? In this week’s mini marketing episode, I’m diving into the pros and cons of AI for writing—and how you can use it to enhance (not replace) your expertise.
The Pros of AI Writing Tools
Let’s start with the exciting part: what AI tools like ChatGPT and Canva’s Magic Write can do.
Quick and Easy Content Creation
Imagine typing in a topic like “Top 5 coffee shops in Winter Park, Florida” and instantly receiving a list complete with descriptions. That’s what I experienced while testing Canva’s Magic Write, and it blew my mind. These tools don’t just copy-paste info—they generate readable, structured content that can serve as a great starting point. No More Writer’s Block
Staring at a blank screen, unsure of what to write? AI tools can help. Whether it’s a neighborhood description or reasons to move to a certain area, these tools give you something to work with, saving you time and effort.Efficient Research
AI doesn’t just write—it helps you find information. While testing it with a specific query about hospitality market trends, I didn’t get a direct answer, but I got useful resources. That alone saved me hours of Googling.
The Cons You Can’t Ignore
Of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are some drawbacks to consider before letting AI take the reins of your marketing.
Accuracy and Reliability
Where does AI get its information? How accurate is it? For light topics like coffee shops, it might be spot on. But for more complex, real estate-specific topics, you’ll need to fact-check. AI doesn’t have your local knowledge or expertise.Lack of Personal Voice
AI can create content, but it can’t sound like you. Your tone, your personality, and your brand voice are unique—and they’re what make you relatable to clients. AI-generated content might be helpful, but it still needs your touch to truly connect with your audience.Branding Challenges
Even with settings for “professional” or “casual,” AI doesn’t always align with your branding. It’s fast, but is it the best representation of your business? I’d argue that it’s better to use AI as a starting point, then edit and personalize the content to match your style.
How to Make AI Work for You
So, how can you leverage AI without losing the personal touch that makes your marketing effective? Here’s my advice:
Use AI for Brainstorming: When you’re stuck, AI can help generate ideas or content drafts to build on.
Always Edit the Output: Don’t copy-paste AI-generated content. Instead, tweak it to ensure it’s accurate and reflects your expertise.
Start Simple: Tools like Canva’s Magic Write are great for beginners. If you already use Canva, give it a try!
AI Writing: A Tool, Not a Replacement
AI writing tools are powerful, but they’re not a substitute for your local expertise or your unique voice. They’re here to make content creation easier, not to replace the human touch. If you’re curious, I encourage you to try them out and see how they fit into your workflow.
